How does it work?

Laser tattoo removal works by firing laser light into the tattoo which breaks the ink into tiny pieces, these little pieces are easy for the body to absorb. This allows the ink to be removed by the body immune system itself. Laser tattoo removal avoids damaging the skin while removing the tattoo, unlike other tattoo removal methods.

Length of treatment?

The average time to remove a tattoo is about 5-7 treatments. Treatments are done with gaps of 4-6 weeks between appointments. Therefore, a full course of treatments may on average take 8 months. However this does vary for each client and their tattoo, as different factors such as ink type and colour, skin type, and age and location of the tattoo play a role.

What happens during treatment?

It’s similar to when you get a tattoo. Anaesthetic cream will be applied to your skin if you require. Laser is applied to the affected area. Quick flashes of bright light may be seen during treatment.  An antibacterial ointment and a dressing will be applied after treatment. Each treatment session usually lasts 30 minutes. Depending on the size of the job, laser tattoo removal can be a painful process.

How to care for the treated area?

After the treatment, the area will feel similar to slight sunburn, bruising and swelling might occur. Typically, within a day or so, any discomfort disappears.  It is advised to treat the area with a cream, e.g. Bepanthen.  Stay out of the sun while your treated area heals and make sure that you use plenty of high factor 50+ sun block thereafter. The healing time can vary but usually takes about 3-4 weeks, you should avoid swimming and sauna while your tattoo heals. Inform your laser removal technician if you are prone to scarring.

What are the disadvantages of laser tattoo removal treatment?

For the vast majority of individuals who undergo laser tattoo removal, a series of laser treatments is required to remove the tattoo completely, the series of treatments can become very costly. The procedure can also be uncomfortable and may cause the individual to experience pain in the area treated. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, although additional treatments can produce significant fading.

How soon after getting a new tattoo can you get it removed?

You can have tattoo removal as soon as the tattoo is fully healed, approx. 6 weeks. We recommend to wait at least 3 months to let the ink settle before you start laser treatments.

How much laser tattoo removal cost?

The removal process will be different depending on the size of the tattoo, colour and ink density, some may require several shorter sessions, while others may need fewer longer sessions with prices starting at 400Kc per session. For example black ink line tattoo 7 x 3 cm first session will be 1000Kc.

Laser tattoo removal is also recommended when you want to replace your old ink with a fresh new design. Many tattoos are too dark to cover up and this will help to lighten the existing ink. If you decide to undergo the treatment at our Tattoo studio, we will offer you a discount for your new tattoo. To lighten an unwanted tattoo you will need approx. 3 laser tattoo removal sessions.
